Prolonged Goodbyes….

March 25, 2009

Are…. what make saying goodbye so difficult. Severance is an art in itself and how to go about it without giving oneself the prolonged agony of self defeating pity, isn’t taught, and mercifully so; I mean how many things actually keep us human these days…? And if one stops feeling pain at severance, how different are you then from a flobberworm or a lizard’s tail?

Point is…. leaving college hurts, and sucks…I no longer know which is which.

Travelling to Lansdowne: Part 1 Making the Plan

January 23, 2009

This started quite suddenly when Aseem had the brainwave ( I dunno why he’s the inspired one in this story, usually it’s Chandresh or GOM- Grand Ol’ Man for you). Anyway, before we start on the same, I have to remind you guys that Oldie and Avikare not here on this leg, Avik’s leg is broken or somewhat, and Oldie’s legs are carrying him to Daman or thereabouts…. and now that the accounts have been cleared, let’s begin….

I ended up attending the Retail class thinking it’d expedite the process of planning, and nothing fruitful came out of it except it didn’t gimme a chance to second-think my decision, coz I’d have ended up making some sorta financial argument against the thing anyway, and my balance sheets have been anything but positive lately and only today did I pay off my 3 month old debt to Aseem, but we’re deviating off the topic here…..

Oh as a postscript, I did succeed in marking attendance for oldie, and ask a couple of questions that I’m sure will get me a retaliation in some other subject pretty soon if not later….

The Planning Process started off with good ol’ google, and pretty soon we’d realised that the quaint little town was pretty popular with folks, and all the usual places were booked… and it came down to some place called oak’s inn or summat…. oh wait, I missed out the good parts.

The Good Parts:

Rao n people are having snacks in the canteen.

GOM : “Upar aa jaa yaar, plan finalise karte hain….”

Someone at the other end: “Yaar, beep beep khaane to de … ”

GOM (To Us, after 2-3 such attempts) ” Main nahin jaa raha in… beepers beep beep beeper ke saath.” 😛

GOM has a temper alright, trouble is it’s too well-masked by the Pride, Blender’s Pride 😛

So everyone swallowed the pride ( figuratively here, in the good ol’ metaphorical way) and decided to plonk for Lansdownejaiharikhal.wordpress.comedible reason to believe is a good place, apart from apparently being the place Ruskin Bond lives. Checklist: Tavera, woollens, camera, me (check 🙂 laptop ( not allowed) cellphones( well , parental controls)

Let’s get underway. Lansdowne, here I come.

Who ME???

Man, I just read some of the guys’ blogs for Numero Uno and looks like they alreadyhave made it to the most googled blogs in the ‘entrepreneur’ category….add india+blogs to that an looks like we have the famed ‘page rank’ algorithm all figured out!! So much for intellectual awesomeness Mr.Brin and Mr. Page…wonder why it wasn’t called Brin-Rinse or something…but there I’m being irreverent again…..

Looks like we’re in for some crazy times ahead in Bangalore….while some of us have already posted our thoughts on the topic for today, some of us are busy typing away on MS-Wor and wil upload the same at 1959….intellectual privacy rights-anyone????

Oh so why I’m writing this entry out – turns out ALL of us have something in common even before we’ve embarked on the ‘quest’ (I don’t know why THAT word is used so often)… viz.

a) Everybody comes from a ‘travelling’ family…one or the other parent having moved around a lot.

b) Have a sidekick hobby- typically reading (either blogs or books).

c) Have done some kind of voluntary activity either for a social or organizational cause…..

That makes for some very interesting stereotyping whatsay? And some not so interesting stereoyping as well – most of us are ‘guys’ and have some kink for technology…. could be a coincidence you know….

Entrepreneurship: Stage 1

October 6, 2008

Being a rank fresher, I hope to shed light on what goes on in the head of a person who has no experience of working in a firm before he joins a B-school…

We live in fortunate times though, and that cannot be denied….there are today institutes like EDI and institutions like NEN to provide angel funding as ell as put budding entrepreneurs on the right path….. Not only is advice and funding meted out but these organizations also double up as placement firms; providing to the corporate, a ‘better employee fit’ for various profiles and projects.

watching the fresher's...waiting for my turn...to announce the winners!!!
A wait…that ended in the D being late,

A wait that was interminable, the thing just dragged on and on, plethora of talent you see,,,….

and then due to the generosity of sponsors surplus prizes to be doled out to all fashion show participants…
and a lot of announcements,
Funny timing issue cropped up…like the prayer to be sung only when the D was present….and no dances in the D’s presence…..not that there was anything untoward in the dances in the first place….but then you never know right? 🙂
Oh that night the FS guys ended up getting eyeliner as prizes or rather an appreciatory gesture…. read the Kite Runner for a funny bit on a boy with mascara….hey it’s pretty tragic actually but what is B-school without finding something funny in every damn thing?
Oh, Aviral almost walked the ramp too , but that’s another story…

Soccer!!!

October 5, 2008

Arsenal drew at Sunderland late last night (well IST anyway), even in lucknow I couldn’t help but scream in anguish and despair at the team that promises the sky and delivers a whimper, how much can a fan take?

Lose to Hull at home, bash Porto and then draw with Sunderland….just another week…!

Play lovely football guys and always be the critics’ choice, but not on the winning side..no definitely not.

Anyway, there’s an element of deja vu in the entire series of outcomes because this has been happening to anothe thing that’s driving me crazy these days…the Dark Knight; dspite my princely contribution of $10 in the 960 odd million it had made, it’s still not any closer to the $1 billion mark by a long shot…why $1 billion? I dunno….jsut one of those things tiny and inexplicable, like wishing Sachin scores a century and thereabouts…there isn’t anything much for the sports fan in India anyway……DD covers Saina’ matches (correct spelling, mind you…) and DD is not even tuned to, in some of the households…. I mean who’d b caught dead watching DD today?

A debate won is a debate settled one might say, but not completely so….the debate on what are the returns n investment  earned by coming all the way to Lucknow for a debate is completely justified by a shiny trophy, bu not when one is also paying for one’s ticket…..so what if only second class? Students you see, perennial paupers….

How I started blogging…..again.

Whoever said that failure is a stepping stone to success wasn’t that far off the mark you know….
